A Nationalistic Pushback Against Globalism Should Not Stop There

American Thinker has a new piece up from J.B. Shurk about how a nationalist revolution against globalism is brewing. He very correctly points out the gross hypocrisy of globalism, claiming to act in the name of democracy and free markets and western values while in fact being the embodiment of the opposite of those things.

Globalism assures us that nationalism is evil. Nationalism assures us that globalism is evil. Both are correct. They each bring their own evils. But nationalism is at least a step closer to the least-evil system of governance: Localism. Localism as defined by deliberately structing government so that all authority is pushed down to the lowest level that can do it, which is mostly the city or county level regarding everything that affects our daily lives. Not that it is perfect, no system is- and that is why localism is the best we can hope for. Localism makes bad government both easier to change and easier to escape from if it won't change. Globalism makes both change and escape virtually impossible. Nationalism merely makes it very difficult.

Only localism makes both change and escape as easy as possible without anarchy, which has its own evils. Localism is the closest we can come to subjecting government to the free market- which would force it to become true servants of decent citizens, or be swiftly punished by market forces.
